A&M-K football assistant gets position with Bears
Ballard leaves Javelinas’ organization after seven years to join the Chicago NFL team as a SW region scout

KINGSVILLE - Chris Ballard, an assistant coach with the Texas A&M-Kingsville football coaching staff for the past seven years, has resigned to accept a position with the Chicago Bears as their southwest region scout. He takes over his new position July 19.
Ballard joined the Javelinas as a graduate assistant in 1994 and served as defensive coordinator last season.
An all-district quarterback at Texas City High School, Ballard played two seasons at the University of Wisconsin before an injury ended his career.
Ballard was an assistant football and track coach at Hitchcock before joining the Javelina staff.
AAA World Series
The OSO All-Star baseball team has qualified to play in the AAA World Series July 15 in Broken Arrow, Okla.
The team of 13-year-olds will be among 90 other teams from the nation expected to compete in the event.
Little high jumper
PORTLAND - Sarah Wedgeworth, 9, tied the national high jumping record of 3'10" for her age group at the Region IX track and field championships last Saturday in San Antonio.
The record was set last year by a girl from Houston, who broke the existing record by four inches.
Sarah will compete in the National Junior Olympic Meet in Norfolk, Va. at the end of July.
