Sandra Watts seeks judgeship
Lawyer is seeking 117th district post that Blackmon is leaving
From staff reports
Sandra Watts, a local attorney with 20 years of trial and family law experience, announced Monday that she will seek election to the 117th District Court.
Watts, 54, was flanked by family and friends in the court's ninth-floor courtroom. She said she wanted to continue serving the justice community by becoming an independent voice. She said there are three sides to every story: the plaintiff, the defendant and the judge.
"I want to be the one who says what the third side to the story is," Watts said. "As a judge, you have a greater opportunity for the delivery of justice."
Watts has four children. She received her law degree from South Texas College of Law. She has practiced trial and family law in Corpus Christi since 1981. She chose her first jury in front of Judge Robert Blackmon, who has announced his intention not to seek re-election. Watts is running for Blackmon's seat.
She has served as president of the Corpus Christi Family Law Association and director of the Corpus Christi Bar Association. She also has worked with Leadership Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Citizens Police Academy.
The primary election will be in March and the runoff will be in November.
