Drawing is today for lots in Bordeaux development
Also: Hawthorn Suites developer wants restaurant on property
Onac Development is starting to sell land for The Bordeaux residential community. A drawing is set for 10 a.m. today at Kiko's for builders to have first choice of lots to buy.
The 152-lot development is near The Vineyards on Airline Road, near Airline's intersection with Saratoga Boulevard. Work on the streets is expected to start in February and be completed in May.
Emilio Cano, developer and former homebuilder, said lots are priced from $19,500 to $33,000. Houses built on the lots can range from 1,600 to 2,000 square feet. The first phase of the development will have 53 homes in it.
"There's a shortage of these lots," he said. "This would have more backyard. The lots that they are doing now, the backyard is small."
Cano said the lot drawing that will be held today is unusual because most homebuilders today own the land where they build. The drawing is to give everyone a fair shot at developing there.
Onac Development has developed Cano Place on Holly Road and Windbrook II off Rodd Field Road.
Hawthorn opens
Hawthorn Suites opened this month in Aransas Pass, but that's not all the developers of the land want to open. They also want to see a restaurant or a retail center nearby.
The three-story hotel has 55,000 square feet adjacent to it for development, said Tim Sanford, one of the principals in the hotel development. Ideally, he would like to see an Applebee's, Chili's or an Outback Steakhouse on the site.
Even if a restaurant doesn't materialize, Sanford said, there is still room for his company to develop a 10,000-square-foot shopping center.
House on convention floor
The Home and Garden Show will not just offer ideas for the home this year. Organizers are building a home right on the floor of the convention center.
Miller High School students will be assembling the wood-frame house the week of the annual Home and Garden Show, Feb. 9-11. Insulated Concrete Homes, Coastal Bend Siding & Windows and Able Construction are assisting with the house building, with lumber donated by Zarsky Lumber.
The house will also be filled with donated items that will be demonstrated in the house. Those include appliances from Sears, lighting from BL Guess Lighting, countertops by Swiff Train and drapes by Rich Interior, to name a few.
Title branch office
Stewart Title has opened a full-service branch office on Padre Island, at the corner of Compass and Commodores streets.
The location will serve one of the fastest-growing areas of the city, said Foster Edwards, president of Stewart Title of Corpus Christi. He said he expects that the title company will do more business now that Stewart Title has a two-person office on the island. Michele Hill is branch manager.
Stewart Title has offices on Staples Street, Airline and Everhart roads, downtown, in Ingleside and on Port Avenue.
More lots available
Seascape Manufactured Home Community recently expanded the number of lots available by 28 spaces. The spaces are larger, to accommodate double-wide homes, said Rod Dittmar, senior project manager at ARC in Denver, which owns the property.
