Javelinas win 15th straight

A&M-Kingsville women top Tarleton St. in OT, 77-75

STEPHENVILLE - It took an overtime period but the Texas A&M-Kingsville women got their 15th consecutive victory with a 77-75 decision over Tarleton State late Saturday night in a Lone Star Conference South Division game.
   The win gives the 11th-ranked Javelinas a 17-2 record overall and a 4-0 conference mark.
   The Javelinas led by as many as 11 in the first half and had a 41-31 halftime lead. They led most of the second half before Tarleton caught up at 55-all with eight minutes left.
   The TexAnns had a two-point lead, 71-69, with 41 seconds left in regulation play. Precious Thibodeaux was fouled with 19 seconds remaining and hit both free throws to send the game into overtime.
   Tarleton led, 75-73, with 3:11 to play in the overtime when the Javelina defense stiffened. While shutting out the TexAnns, the Javelinas got two free throws from Arie Wilson to tie at 1:20, Ashley White scored the first of two free throws at 22 seconds and Wilson was successful on one of two free throws with 13 seconds remaining.
   Thibodeaux had the hot hand for the Javelinas, scoring 26 points. Former Ray High School standout Pat Lewandowski, who had four three-pointers in six attempts, scored 18 and Wilson ended with 11.
   Misty Wilson had 33 for the TexAnns.
   Wilson had game-best rebounding honors with 13 and Thibodeaux pulled down 10.
   A&M-Kingsville lost former IWA standout Lorie Martinez late in regulation play to fouls, and finished with four players with four fouls each.
   Tarleton State (1-1, 4-10) lost JacqueRae Hill and Leah Whatley to fouls, and had four players with four each.
   The Javelinas, who have been on the road for four straight games, return home this week to host Angelo State Thursday night and Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon in LSC South Division matchups.
