Staff reports

Miller Environmental workers vacuum the oily water around the port following a spill on Thursday. Oil booms were placed around the area.
An estimated 200 gallons of petroleum product called vacuum gas oil spilled into the Corpus Christi Inner Harbor near Oil Dock 3, U. S. Coast Guard officials reported Thursday.
The thick, black oil spilled into the water near the dock off Cantwell Lane while workers were loading a barge, the Coast Guard reported.
Cleanup workers placed a containment boom around the area of the spill to keep the oil from spreading.
The oil washed up along an estimated 200 feet of shoreline, reported Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Ben Gates.
The barge involved in the spill is owned by Coastal Towing, a marine transportation company that carries petroleum cargo along the Intracoastal Waterway, officials said.

Workers from Miller Environmental were cleaning an oil spill at Oil Dock 3 on Thursday afternoon.

In addition to the Coast Guard, representatives from the General Land Office were on the scene to monitor the cleanup.
Jimmy Martinez, assistant regional director for the land office in Corpus Christi, said about 90 percent of the spill was cleaned up Thursday. The rest of the cleanup should be finished today, he said.
The cause of the spill is under investigation and the company could face fines, Gates said.
