Wright headlines annual coaches clinic

From staff and correspondent reports

A cast of successful college and high school coaches are scheduled to be guest lecturers at Bill Rhyne's 20th annual Coastal Bend Coaches Clinic, which begins today at the Holiday Inn Airport.
Headlining the crew is Bobby Jack Wright, the former Texas A&I assistant who is the defensive ends coach and recruiting coordinator for national-champion Oklahoma.
Also on the three-day program are John Parchmann, who has coached Midland Lee to three straight Class 5A state football championships; Jimmy Keeling, the former coach of state champion Lubbock Estacado and past president of the Texas High School Coaches Association who resurrected Hardin Simmons' football program; Austin Westlake coach Ron Schroeder, who has led the Chaparrals to one state title and to this year's Division I final against Parchmann's Lee club; and the coaching staff at Flour Bluff, which reached the playoffs this season for the first time since 1982.
Wright, 50, began his coaching career at A&I in 1979, helping the Javelinas to the NAIA championship. Before his stint at Texas (1986-97), Wright coached at North Texas State (1983-83). He was with the Javelinas from 1979-82.
In addition to football, seminars will be conducted by track and field and volleyball coaches.
The clinic, organized and operated by Rhyne, whose longtime coaching resume includes stops at Tuloso-Midway, Agua Dulce and Moody, concludes Saturday with the annual "Bodacious Bar-B-Q." During those festivities, the 2001 class of the Coastal Bend Coaches Association Hall of Honor will be inducted.
Four men to be inducted this year are former Bishop football coach Milton Jirasek; ex-Gregory-Portland football assistant and head coach Carlo Mircovich; longtime area sports official Fred Woodard; and former longtime Carroll golf, track and football coach Floyd "Punk" Rogers.
