WPHL announces All-Star starting rosters

No IceRays make the cut; League to decide on reserves for Jan. 26 game early next week

From staff and correspondent reports

Lubbock's Kyle Reeves, whose 36 goals lead the Western Professional Hockey League this season, and Tupelo's Jason Firth lead the team of starting lineups for the WPHL's 5th Annual All-Star Game, the league announced Thursday.
No IceRays, however, landed on the starting roster for the all-star game, which will be played Jan. 26 at Odessa's Ector County Coliseum.
The remainder of the all-star team, including reserves, will be announced early next week, possibly on Tuesday, according to league officials.
The team was tabulated from votes from head coaches, public relations/broadcasting staff, members of the media and from online fan voting.
Tupelo's Firth was a clear choice among voters as an Eastern Division starter after scoring 70 points in just 39 games during the first half of the season. The veteran center recorded his 1,000th career professional point earlier this season, and leads a T-Rex squad that has scored a league-leading 421 points through 39 games.
Other Eastern starting forwards include Austin's Kelly Smart (14 goals, 29 assists in 31 games) and Monroe's Darren Dougan (15 goals, 25 assists in 37 games).
Jason Smith, Dougan's teammate in Monroe, partners with Tupelo's Barry McKinlay as the Eastern Division starting defensemen. Ken Carroll of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will handle goaltending responsibilities.
Reeves, the Lubbock right wing, has dominated opposing goaltenders this season and has a chance to surpass former El Paso Buzzard Jamie Thompson's 71 goals scored during the 1997-98 season.
Joining Reeves on the front line of the Western Division All-Star team will be center Randy Murphy from New Mexico and rookie forward Bill Newson of the Amarillo Rattlers.
