Islanders softball drops all three Classic games

A&M-CC remains winless, falling to Tennessee, 7-1

Corpus Christi - Texas A&M Corpus Christi dropped all three games in the first day of the Islander Classic at Cabaniss Field.
   A&M- Corpus Christi, 0-11 on the year, fell 7-1 to Tennessee, 8-0 to 23rd- ranked Mississippi State and 2-0 to 16th ranked Oregon State.
   Tennessee turned five hits and two Islanders errors into six first-inning runs. Melissa Radley highlighted the frame with a two-run single. A&M-CC scored its' run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Shelley Oeten. Stephanie Humphrey went the distance on a two-hitter, walking one, while striking out seven.
  

  • NO. 16 OREGON STATE 3, NO. 23 MISSISSIPPI STATE 0: Crystal Draper went the distance on a two hitter to pace the Beaver to victory in a contest between two nationally ranked schools. OSU took the lead in the top of the second on a run-scoring double by Traci Feldt. The Beavers tacked on two runs in the in the top of the seventh. Michelle Chariton plated Cara Maxey with a single down the leftfield line. The junior stole home to finish the scoring.
      
  • SOUTHWEST TEXAS STATE 4, TENNESEE 3: Southwest State (6-1) plated two runs in the top of the seventh to post a come from behind 4-3 victory over Tennessee (1-4). Ashley Koop's sacrifice fly plated Sarah Yarbrough with the game-winning run. Yarbrough tied the game with a run scoring triple. SWT pitcher Jessica Chase went five strong innings of hitless ball to pick up the win in relief.
