Eastern New Mexico rallies to overcome A&M-K, 72-69

Javelinas keep at least tie for first place in South Division

KINGSVILLE - Eastern New Mexico came back from an 18-point deficit to upset Texas A&M-Kingsville, 72-69, Thursday night.
   Despite the loss, the Javelinas (20-4, 7-2 in the Lone Star Conference) maintained at least a tie for first place in the South Division.
   A&M-Kingsville dominated the first half, leading by 18 with 11:47 left on the clock by a score of 24-6. But the second half was almost a complete reversal of fortunes. While the Javelinas dropped from a 50-percent shooting performance in the first half to 23.1 percent in the second, Eastern (7-12, 3-5) caught up to knot the game at 54-54 with 10 minutes left.
   Eastern took its first lead with 5:49 left at 60-57.
   Two free throws by former Ray High School star Pat Lewandowski, however, tied the game again at 69-69 with 20 seconds left in the game, but Eastern made one free throw with six seconds left, and added two more with less than a second remaining to seal the upset.
   Precious Thibodeaux led the Javelinas with 15 points. Lewandowski added 12 and Arie wilson and Colter Mize each had 11.
   The Javelinas will be at home Saturday to host West Texas A&M in a 2 p.m. contest.
