The IceRays re-signed left wing Cory Evans (above) along with forward Alex Kholomeyev. The team still has four spots to fill on the preseason roster.
For the last four months, Corey Evans has spent most of his days in Corpus Christi just laying low.
With a little less than seven weeks to go before the start of the Corpus Christi IceRays' preseason training camp, things have finally started to pick up.
The IceRays announced Wednesday the signing of Evans and veteran forward Alex Kholomeyev, a duo that combined for 77 points last season.
"Alex brings a lot to the table. He's a strong power forward that was one of the better offensive weapons last year," IceRays coach Dale Henry said. "Cory is a tough, bona fide player. Day in and day out, you know what you're going to get from him."
Training camp opens Oct. 10 with 22 players. Teams are allowed to carry a roster of 18 players during the regular season. The new Central Hockey League is scheduled to begin play in late October.
The addition of Evans and Kholomeyev leaves four spots to fill on the IceRays' preseason roster, which includes two of Henry's former teammates from Bossier-Shreveport, which won the last three WPHL championships.

  •    "It looks like he's got everything in order. I'm surprised myself at some of the players he's got to come in," Evans said of Henry. "In this new league, things will probably be a little different. I think we have a good shot (at winning a championship) with the talent we have on paper. I know it's different on the ice, but right now we look real good."
Forward Mike DeGurse played with Henry during last season's championship run with Bossier-Shreveport, while goaltender Hugo Hamelin was a teammate of Henry's during the Mudbugs' first two title campaigns.
In 1995, Kholomeyev and Hamelin were teammates in Huntsville of the old CHL. With the team Henry has assembled, a championship is within reach, Kholomeyev said .
"The offense looks pretty good, we have a couple of good defensemen and Hugo is a very good goalie," Kholomeyev said. "Anything is possible if you play hard and do what you have to do."
