Mireles-Braswell loves jewelry, and she has the rings, including this giant ring pin, to prove it.

Closet snoop
Leonor Mireles-Braswell, 57, is a grandmother of three whose hobbies include Tejano dancing, walking, shopping and buying jewelry. She is retired from the Texas Department of Human Services and has been an Avon representative for 15 years (President’s Club and Honor Society member). She’s also on the Breast Cancer Care Program Advisory Committee for Christus Spohn Health System.
Q: What’s one word to describe your style?
A: Gregarious. People say my style fits my personality — outgoing, self-assured and confident. I am best known for wearing “different” styles of jewelry. Everything I wear has to match with my dress. I have every shoe color and tons of costume jewelry — rings, watches, necklaces.
Q: What are your outrageous items?
A: Loud colors such as neons and big flowers. And I have the jewelry and shoes to go with it. I love big and bold jewelry of every color, size and shape.
Q: My fashion advice to other women is …
A: Buy what makes you feel and look good, have confidence in yourself and believe that you deserve to look good. Women need to have fun with fashion because fashions change every day. And buy only what you can afford.

Mireles-Braswell owns about 20 watches in a variety of styles. She always has to know what time it is.
|
Q: Whose styles do you most admire?
A: First Lady Laura Bush — her hair, simplicity. She looks elegant and distinguished. And also former First Lady Hillary Clinton for her pantsuits.
Q: An item you can’t live without:
A: Watches. I’m the type of person that has to know what time it is. I own around 20 watches. People would make fun of me because everywhere I turn, there’s a clock in my home.
Q: What do you do with all the clothing you no longer wear?
A: I have rummage sales and donate a lot of items. We raise money for free mammograms for the Spohn Breast Cancer Program. Also for scholarships at the Eligio Escobar Conjunto Festival for persons interested in developing a musical career. I’m always cleaning my closet.
Q: Who is your best fashion critic?
A: My husband. I will not leave the house until he sees what I’m wearing. He’s a retired junior high school art teacher. He talks to me in art terminology. He might say “that’s too busy” or “that doesn’t talk to me.” He also repairs my jewelry if it breaks.
