Farm Aid back with Willie Nelson, others
Associated Press
SOMERVILLE, Mass. - John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson and Neil Young will bring Farm Aid back to Indiana on Sept. 29.
Mellencamp said it's been 11 years since Farm Aid was staged in Indianapolis, and he welcomes the show back to his home state.
"Farm Aid represents farmers, small towns and a lifestyle that could easily disappear from America," he said in a statement. "I look forward to the Indianapolis Farm Aid to help support and bring recognition to the trials and tribulations of our American farmers."
Dave Matthews will make a special solo appearance at the benefit concert, which will be held at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, near Indianapolis.
Nelson, Mellencamp and Young founded Farm Aid in 1985 to raise public awareness about the plight of the American family farmer. In the past 16 years, the organization says it has granted nearly $16 million to more than 100 farm organizations, churches and service agencies in 44 states.
This year's event will be the 14th concert. It will be telecast live by CMT: Country Music Television.
Farm Aid's main office is in Somerville, Mass.
