Ian Moore enjoys less
Bluesman with psychodelia and East-Indian influnces says he'd rather play for
small audiences

Ian
Moore celebrates the release of his newest album ‘Via Satellite’ Thursday at the
Executive Surf Club. Doors open at 7 p.m. |
Rocker Ian Moore has played for thousands of fans at a time. But Moore said
some of his best shows have been at small venues.
"The energy that's being created between the band and the fans is
more focused," Moore said in a phone interview from his home in Washington. "As
you get more and more people, it makes it harder to connect with the crowd."
Moore, who brings his band to the Executive Surf Club Thursday, is
a guitar virtuoso whose blues-driven rock includes flourishes of soul, psychodelia
and East-Indian exotica.
"Man, he's just a rocking blues guitarist," said Casey Lain, music
promoter with the Surf Club. "He uses a lot of effects when he plays. And he has
an awesome band backing him up."
Moore, who lived in Austin before moving to Washington three years
ago, said he was elated to play for a crowd of thousands at a recent Austin event
celebrating bicyclist Lance Armstrong's victory at the Tour de France. But Moore
said he also is looking forward to the smaller show at the Surf Club.
Two of the most intense shows he ever played were acoustic performances
at small clubs in Austin and Los Angeles, he said.
"Both of them were sold out, so they were packed, but packed meant
75 people," Moore said. "But those 75 people were so tuned into every song that
they would react to every line I sang. It created this sensual, strong energy."
Moore is touring in support of his latest CD, "Via Satellite," a
live set recorded at the Fabulous Satellite Lounge in Houston.
"It captures the sound we've been working on a few years, but it's
a good balance," Moore said. "We're an experimental band. ... We don't stick to
a formula."
