MELLENCAMP, KING COMPLETE MUSICAL

   BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - John Mellencamp and fiction writer Stephen King expect to complete the musical they're working on sometime in February.
   Mellencamp said the two plan to meet in February to finish the musical, which he termed "an American story."
   "Steve has written the most beautiful story," he said. "I've written about five songs for this thing and there's not one rock song anywhere near it."
   Mellencamp said he still has about 10 songs to write for the production.
   "If this works like we think it's going to, it'll be great," he said.
  
   WAX MUSEUM DISPLAYS ACTION-FILM CHARACTERS

   LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Action film characters that Angelina Jolie, Russell Crowe and Keanu Reeves have played are the newest additions to the Hollywood Wax Museum.
   The wax figure of Jolie's video game vixen character in "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" wore her movie-poster black spandex outfit .
   Oscar winner Russell Crowe's Roman general Maximus appeared holding his four-pound metal .
   A wax look-alike of Reeves, as computer hacker Neo from "The Matrix," made its grand entrance wearing a full-length black jacket.
  
   'JOHN ADAMS' TOPS BEST SELLER LISTS
   NEW YORK - John Adams, the president, was so unpopular he couldn't get re-elected. "John Adams," the book, is so popular that copies in print have already reached 1 million.
   Written by David McCullough, the Pultizer Prize-winning biographer of Harry Truman, "John Adams" was released in late May and quickly topped best seller list around the country.
  
   MUSEUMS ROLL THE DICE WITH LAS VEGAS OPENING
   LAS VEGAS - A pair of museums created by Russia's State Hermitage Museum and New York's Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation will open at the Venetian hotel-casino on Sept. 16.
   The 63,700-square-foot Guggenheim Las Vegas will feature "special large-scale exhibitions." The 7,660-square-foot Hermitage Guggenheim Museum will feature fine art from both the Hermitage and the Guggenheim.
  
   'N SYNC FANS GET PLASTIC PROTECTION
   PITTSBURGH - The people who take care of Heinz Field's natural grass turf don't fear linebackers and quarterbacks - they fear 'N Sync fans.
   Before the Pittsburgh Steelers make their Aug. 25 debut at their new home, 'N Sync will fill the stadium for an Aug. 18 concert. Sheets of a clear, plasticlike covering will be rolled onto Heinz Field, protecting the grass from 8,000 seats and the band's stage.
