Swimmer Hetzel captures gold medals during Senior Olympics qualifying meet

Corpus Christi senior swimmer Tom Hetzel brought home five medals in the Texas Senior Olympics qualifying meet held Friday in Kerrville.
Competing in the 65-69 division, Hetzel won gold medals in the 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter breaststroke. He earned three silvers in the 50-meter breaststroke, 50-meter backstroke and 100-meter backstroke.
Hetzel qualified in those five events for the Texas Senior Olympics State Championships scheduled Sept. 10 in Lubbock. The top three finishers in each event qualify.
Rosales, Davis named to LSC all-tournament team
KINGSVILLE - Two Texas A&M-Kingsville were named to the Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship all-tournament team last weekend in Edmond, Okla.
Outfielder Adrian Rosales, senior from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, and shortstop Denzil Davis sophomore from Friendswood, were selected to the honor squad.
Drews leads softball team to win over Texas Southern
Melanie Drews went the distance on a two-hitter to pace Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to an 8-0 victory over Texas Southern, Saturday afternoon at A&M-CC's campus softball complex. Drews, who improved to 10-22 on the year, allowed one hit in each of the first two innings. The sophomore fanned nine TSU batters while issuing only one walk.
Martinez signs with Islanders tennis program
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's tennis program announced its' first signee to its' 2001 recruiting class with the inking of Jessica Martinez of North Central Texas College to a national letter of intent.
A&M-CC announces recent track signees
Enrique Garza of PSJA North in Pharr and Marcos Munoz of Antonian Prep in San Antonio headline Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's cross country and track & field signees. The Islanders also revealed Chel Cardona, Oscar Carmona, Julio and Peter Stinzi each signed national letters of intent on the men's side. A&M-Corpus Christi also received pledges from Nia Bunch, Tiffany Curry, Sarah Flores and Misti Kordzik on the women's side.
