Southwest Texas State hammers Islanders
Bobcats rap 15 hits en route to 13-4 win over A&M-CC

SAN MARCOS - Mark Younk drove in five runs and Josh Newwland had three RBIs to pace Southwest Texas State to a 13-4 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tuesday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
Younk led a 15-hit attack with a 2-for-5 effort, which included belting a grand slam over the right-field fence in the bottom of the eighth. Five Bobcats tallied multi-hit games. Lance Williams also had a game-best three hits for Southwest Texas State.
SWT (21-12) broke open a 1-0 game with a four-run third inning. Williams, Bryan Kent and Younk each stroked doubles in the frame. Eight of the Bobcats' 15 hits were for extra bases.
Newland added to SWT's 5-0 advantage with a solo homer in the fourth inning, his eighth of the year. The Bobcats tacked on three more runs in the fifth and four in the eighth.
Paul Schappert pitched five strong innings, scattering four hits and surrendering an earned run in improving to 4-0.
Islander starter Chuck Hoskins suffered the defeat and fell to 0-2.
A&M-CC, which didn't have a hit in the first four innings, got on the board in the fifth inning courtesy of Adam Sadler. The senior lined a double down the third base line to score Sean Braithwaite and Brandon Trevino.
Rene Chavez's solo homer to right, his third of the year, accounted fot the Islanders' final run.
Five pitchers limited the Islanders to six hits on the afternoon.
Josh Wilson went 2 for 4 to lead the A&M-CC offensive attack. Junior Michael Shandler's 19-game hitting streak came to an end when he went 0 for 4.
A&M-CC (12-20) will play a doubleheader at Lamar this afternoon before opening a three-game series against Centenary Saturday afternoon at Cabaniss Field.

Schreiner rallies late_to nip Javelinas, 5-4
KINGSVILLE - Schreiner College scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take a 5-4 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville Tuesday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.
The teams had spent the game exchanging leads before the Mountaineers' ninth.
The Javelinas led, 1-0, for four innings and the teams were tied, 1-1, heading into the eighth.
Schreiner scored once in the top of the eighth and the Javelinas took a 3-2 lead in the bottom end of the frame. Then came the Mountaineers' three-run outburst, and a run by the Javelinas in the bottom of the ninth left the squad one short.
The Javelinas used six pitchers and Mike Cressman, responsible for two of the runs in the top of the ninth, was the loser.
Geoff Greene got the victory for Schreiner and Brandon Creek was credited with a save.
The Javelinas had 10 hits and John Dean went 3 for 5.
Armando Huerta was 2 for 3 and Aaron Higginboth went 2 for 4.
B.J. Griffith and Adrian Rosales each had a double for the Javelinas.
Schreiner (22-6) had nine hits, but two were home runs and four others were doubles.
The Javelinas (17-24) return to Lone Star Conference South Division action Friday and Saturday when it takes on West Texas A&M in Canyon. The teams play a single game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday.
