IceRays hire new assistant athletic director

For the second time this week, the Corpus Christi IceRays went out and got defensive help. The IceRays signed defenseman Gatis Tseplis on Wednesday. They signed Western Professional Hockey League all-star defenseman Jamie Hearn earlier in the week.
"We are going to be loaded at defense," IceRays coach Taylor Hall said. "There is no question that this will be the best team we have had here, and all the players are anxious to get started."
Tseplis, 29, displayed some offensive skills last year with Fort Worth, scoring 45 points in 44 games.
"Tseplis is a very talented young player," Hall said. "I see him contributing on defense as well as special teams."
The IceRays will have 28 players, including nine defensemen, report to training camp Sunday. The IceRays first exhibition game is Wednesday against the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League.
