Attorney general launches Texas Internet Burea

Associated Press

AUSTIN - The Texas Attorney General's office has added a division designed to fight fraud and crime on the Internet, officials announced Thursday.
The Texas Internet Bureau will coordinate and direct office officials to address consumer fraud, online child pornography, privacy concerns, hacking and other tech crimes, Attorney General John Cornyn said.
"As more and more Texans use the Internet in business, at home and at school, there are also more and more criminals who are using cyberspace to commit fraud and other crimes," Cornyn said in a statement.
An $800,000 grant from Gov. George W. Bush's office created the Texas Internet Bureau on Sept. 1. It will soon have a staff of 10, including attorneys, investigators and technological and administrative staff, spokeswoman Heather Browne said.
The bureau will assist local law enforcement agencies, district attorneys and U.S. attorneys throughout Texas in Internet-related crimes, officials said.
