Two Islanders men's tennis players advance at Region VI Championships

FORT WORTH - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Paul McInerney and Tanner Payne advanced to the third round of singles competition at the ITA Rolex Region VI Championships on Friday at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center.
McInerney, the 28th seed, dumped Rice's Vuk Rajevac, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. The senior, who had a bye in the first round, will meet the fifth-seed, Scott Eddings of TCU in the third round.
Payne ousted Gary Nunn of Arkansas, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, in the first round and then defeated Baylor's Csonger Bibza, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, in the later match to gain a berth in the final 32. The senior will take on 10th seeded Keith From of Texas A&M.
Two Islanders were knocked out on the day. Stuart Beauchamp defaulted to Richard Barker of Rice in the second round due to injury. The senior, who blasted UT-San Antonio's Fredrik Darmont 6-4, 6-1 in the first round, was leading at the time he stopped the match. Jason Holland fell 6-3, 6-4 to Jarin Skube of Texas A&M in the first round matchup.
WOMEN'S TENNIS:
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Felice Sanchez and Stacey Light advanced to the third round of their singles flights at the UT-San Antonio Invitational on Friday.
Sanchez, a freshman, won a pair of three-set decisions on the day. She defeated Tyler Junior College's Britteny Holiday, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, in the first round and then dumped Sarah Convery of Southwest Texas State in the second round, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, in flight two action.
Light registered a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jennifer Klauk of St. Mary's and then tallied 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 decision over UT-Pan American's Alana Breen in the second match of the day.
One Islander doubles team moved on in main draw competition. The tandem of Ellian Rohrbacher and Kelli Kukk posted victories in its' first two matches of the flight three doubles competition.
VOLLEYBALL:
A&M-Corpus Christi's volleyball team swept Jackson St., 15-3, 15-9, 15-6, Saturday.
Rockport-Fulton graduate Laney Bardin led the Islanders with a team-high 11 kills. Marcille Cox and Melanie Travis contributed nine kills, and Cassiana Costa chipped in five aces.
The Islanders have won four of their last five games, improving to 8-17 on the year. A&M-CC will face Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6 at Moody Fieldhouse in the Islanders' last home match of the season.
