   Florencia Chavez
   SAN DIEGO - Florencia Chavez died Oct. 14, 2000. She was 74.
   Survivors include three sons, Ernesto Chavez of El Reno, Okla., Robert Chavez of Alice, Carlos Chavez of El Paso; two daughters, Otila Salinas of Alice and Elvira Chavez of San Diego; two sisters, Josefina and Valentina Chavez, both of Mexico City; a brother, Joseph Chavez of Mexico City; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
   Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church. Burial will be in San Diego Cemetery.

   Shirley M. Cox
   REFUGIO - Shirley M. Cox, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, died Oct. 15, 2000. She was 55.
   Services will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at First Baptist Church in Refugio and 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at Vineyard Funeral Home in Floresville. Burial will be in Floresville City Cemetery.

   Jose R. Cuevas
   WHITSETT - Jose Ricardo "Richard" Cuevas, an Army veteran and a retired Texas Highway Department maintenance crew chief, died Oct. 16, 2000. He was 55.
   Survivors include his wife, Leonila; two daughters, Candi Amaro of Whitsett and Christy Coscetti of Mannheim, Germany; his mother, Juanita Cuevas of George West; three brothers, Felimon Cuevas of George West and Mario and Raymond Cuevas, both of San Antonio; five sisters, Mary Calvert, Connie Perez and Hope Rivas, all of Corpus Christi, Mickey Gutierrez of George West and Matilda Teneyuque of Cedar Park; and three grandchildren.
   Services will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home, Three Rivers. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
  
   Thomas B. Gunter
   BEN BOLT - Thomas Bragg Gunter, an Army captain during World War II, a retired employee of Central Power and Light and co-owner of Gunter Engineering Co. in Alice, died Oct. 13, 2000. He was 88.
   Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Dugat of Corpus Christi; three sons, Thomas Gunter Jr. of Corpus Christi; David Gunter of Cleburne and Robert Gunter of Ben Bolt; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
   Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church in Alice.

   Narcisa G. Martinez
   FALFURRIAS - Narcisa G. Martinez, a homemaker, died Oct. 16, 2000.
   Survivors include five sons, Raul Martinez of San Antonio, Rubin Martinez of Yukon, Okla., Rafael Martinez of Angleton, Roel Martinez of Freeport and Rogerio Martinez of Falfurrias; four daughters, Gloria Tamayo of San Antonio, Elva Yates of Angleton, Eltagracia Martinez of Munday and Evangelina Hinojosa of Premont; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
   Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at Howard-Williams-Turcotte Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Falfurrias Burial Park.
  
   Fernando M. Salinas
   Fernando M. Salinas, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and retired from PPG Industries, died Oct. 15, 2000. He was 95.
   Survivors include two daughters, Constable Nati Alanaiz and Amparo Cardenas, both of Corpus Christi; two sons, Fernando Salinas Jr. of Hayword, Calif., and Abelardo Salinas of Corpus Christi; a sister, Elodia De Los Santos of Corpus Christi; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
   Rites of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

   Jeanne Whelan
   Jeanne Whelan, a founding member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a member of the American Association of University Women, died Oct. 14, 2000. She was 80.
   Survivors include a son, Gene Whelan of Austin; and two sisters, Cecelia Embry and Patricia Williams, both of Corpus Christi.
   Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park.

   Myrtle M. Zackie died Oct. 15, 2000. She was 99.
