Javelinas forming good scoring habits
A&M-Kingsville football team scores on first possesion for second straight week
By Javier Becerra Caller-Times
KINGSVILLE-Habits are easy to develop.
Texas A&M-Kingsville may also find that habits aren't always bad.
For the second straight week, the Javelinas scored on their first possession of the game, this time against Central Oklahoma Saturday night at Javelina Stadium.
A&M-Kingsville marched 72 yards in 12 plays on the opening drive, using just over than 6 minutes of the clock and scoring on an 11-yard run by quarterback Abel Gonzalez.
The Javelinas had four first downs on the drive and converted all four of their third down attempts. A&M-Kingsville's offense was 20 of 78 (25.6 percent) on third downs entering the game.
On its first drive in last week's win over A&M-Commerce, A&M-Kingsville needed just six plays to drive 91 yards. Gonzalez hit Robert Walker for a 16-yard touchdown pass to cap the drive, which proved to be the game winner in the 7-0 victory.
A ON THE ROAD: Central Oklahoma is 72-53-4 (.574) in away games in 24 years under Gary Howard. The Bronchos are 0-4 on the road this season and have never won in Kingsville.
A RUN TO WIN: The Bronchos are 58-11-1 (.836) in the 70 games over the last 10 years in which they've had a back rush for 100 yards.
Tailback Greg Briley has rushed for 100 yards in three of Central Oklahoma's six games this season, only two of which have been wins.
