Town wants to capture guacamole-making title
Associated Press
Break out the tortilla chips - and lots of 'em.
In an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records, spoon-wielding residents of an avocado-growing town in central Michoacan, Mexico, on Monday whipped up 1,930 pounds of guacamole.
Uruapan plans to send the Guinness foundation a videotape and witness testimony of the process in hopes of capturing the new title. Their effort constituted 60 people applying five hours of muscle power to 2,840 pounds of avocado pulp, 240 pounds of onion, 250 pounds of tomato, 33 pounds of chili pepper, 33 pounds of cilantro, 13 gallons of lime juice and 15 pounds of salt.
Mayor Rafael Elvira Quesada claims his town's guacamole outranks the dip made by the reigning champs of Queenland, Australia, both in quantity and quality.
