Javelinas' basketball team loses

SAN ANTONIO - Incarnate Word hit a sizzling 62 percent from the field as the Crusaders edged Texas A&M-Kingsville, 71-69, Tuesday night.
The Crusaders (3-2) shot 69 percent the first half, and had a 43-36 halftime lead. The 2-3 Javelinas rallied in the second period, but couldn't overcome the impressive field-goal percentage by UIW. The Crusaders chilled slightly in the second half, making 52 percent of their shots. A&M-Kingsville hit 44 percent of its shots for the game.
Kendell Garland led the Javelinas with 16 points. Eric Potter and Billy Brewster each had 15 points and James Smith hit 10. Adam Mason and Chris Johnson each had 16 points for UIW.
The Crusaders won the rebounding battle, 33-25. Brewster had six rebounds to lead the Javs.
A&M-Kingsville will be back in San Antonio this weekend for the St. Mary's Classic Friday and Saturday. The Javs take on Northwest Missouri Friday night and Arkansas-Monticello Saturday night.
