Wingfield agrees to skate for Corpus Christi again
From staff and correspondent reports
The Bruise Brothers are back.
The Corpus Christi IceRays have signed former forward Brad Wingfield, reuniting him with IceRays forward Geoff Bumstead, and the two could be on the ice again as early as tonight, the team announced Monday.
Wingfield originally signed with the IceRays in April, but then was placed on the team negotiation list when he opted to play overseas in England for the Bracknell Bees. He changed his mind, however, and the IceRays decided to bring him back.
Together, Wingfield and Bumstead paired to be one of the WPHL's toughest forward combinations last season.
Wingfield played in 65 games last season for the IceRays, scoring 13 goals and recording 22 assists. He had 35 points. In 1998, he scored 12 goals, had 11 assists and 23 points.
"Brad should give the team a huge lift," IceRays coach Taylor Hall said. "Brad's the type of player that can change the course of a game. His checking ability and overall physical play is exactly what we need."
Wingfield's first game will be either tonight against the Fort Worth Brahmas or Friday at Austin.
