LULAC roasts Rep. Ortiz

U.S. Rep. Solomon Ortiz, D-Corpus Christi, was roasted and toasted at the first annual League of United Latin American Citizens Council No. 4444 scholarship fund-raiser and celebration of Cinco de Mayo.
"I've been roasted before, but what they do is tell you in advance what they're going to say so that you can prepare a response," Ortiz laughed.
"This time no one would tell me what they're going to say, so I get to say what I want."
Ortiz said he agreed to the roast because he believes the scholarships given by LULAC will encourage young Hispanics to lead.
Victor Villarreal Way, president of LULAC No. 4444, said the group chose Ortiz for its first roast because he represents two things that LULAC No. 4444 stands for, education and unity by example.
