AYALA
Gilberto G. Ayala, 65, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2000 at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gregorio and Ramona Ayala; sister, Santos Villegas; and daughter, Adelia Medina.
Mr. Ayala is survived by his children, Gilberto Z. Ayala, Jr., Cynthia A. Ayala and Belinda A. Ayala all of Corpus Christi, Texas; five sisters, Emilia Garcia (Joel), Rafaela Trevino both of Corpus Christi, Emma Garcia of Alice, San Jaunita Nava of Wilmington, California, Evangelina Montelongo of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Margarito Ayala (Sharon) of Long Beach,
California and Santiago Ayala (Estela) of Corpus Christi; nine grandchildren; forty-two nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Jesse Gonzales (Felipa).
Visitation will be held at the Corpus Christi Funeral Home from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2000 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 16, 2000 in the Corpus Christi Chapel.
Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
BIRMINGHAM
Milton J. "Blackie" Birmingham passed away Monday, March 13, 2000 at the age of 87.
He was retired from Anderson Machinery Co. Milton was an avid fisherman and loved by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his son, James Birmingham and one stepson Jimmy Capeheart.
Milton is survived by his wife, Sally Birmingham of Corpus Christi; three daughters, Texene (Oscar) Placke of Giddings, Texas and Gay Kilpatrick of Fort Scott, Kansas, Carolyn (Jerry) Lancaster; four sons, Dudley (Sonia) Birmingham of Fort Worth, Texas, Milton (Sue) Birmingham of Houston, Texas, Glenn (Sue) Birmingham of Springfield, Missouri, Bruce Birmingham of Portland, Texas; sister, Martha Work and brother Lonnie Birmingham, both of Corpus Christi, Texas and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 from 8:00 AM-6:00 PM at Seaside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 16, 2000 at 3:00 PM in the Seaside Chapel with Rev. Thomas Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Joe Lancaster, Russell Lancaster, Edward Contreras, Corey Endsley, Sean Shepard and Sheldon Lowe.

Ella Ruth Cavette, 88, passed away Monday, March 13, 2000 in a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2000 at St. Peter by the Sea.
EDMISON
BAYTOWN, TX - Eunice Edith Edmison Mullinax went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, March 14, 2000.
A resident of the Baytown area for 35 years, she was a member of Central Baptist Church. She lived in Rockport "on the coast" for 59 years before coming to live with her daughter, Judy Powell, in Baytown in 1965.
"Gram" loved to write poetry and make quilts for her family and friends.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Mullinax; her daughter, Mary Brock, and sons-in-law, Clark Powell, John Bostic, Noble Evans, Paul Shomber, and Chester Brock. She was also preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law, Gracie and Milton Sparks, Felma and Sam Mundine, Ted Mclester; brother, Curtis Edmison, and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by daughters, Judy Powell of Crosby, Texas, Dorothy Brown and husband Charlie of Dayton, Texas, and Linda Bostic of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. Also a son, Roy Mullinax and wife, Joyce of Sherman, Texas; also surviving are her sister, Olga McLester of Rockport, Texas and sister-in-law, Hettie Edmison of Portland, Texas. Mrs. Mullinax leaves behind 26 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 41 great-great-grandchildren as well as the Dale Smith family of Baytown.
Viewing for the family and friends will be Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. A service in Baytown will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church.
A service in Rockport will be held on Friday, March 17, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home under the direction of granddaughter, Shirly Marshall and her husband, Bill.
Burial will be at Rockport Cemetery.

FARIS
Helen Doris Faris, age 71 passed away March 14, 2000.
Helen was born on March 15, 1928 in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late James Power and Winnie Lee Brown. She was married to Jerry Carroll Faris on August 26, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be dearly missed.
Surviving family include her husband Jerry C. Faris of Corpus Christi, Texas, three children Richard (Nancy) Faris of Calallen, Texas, Diana Kay (Jim) Arnett of Rockport, Texas, and Carol Ann (Roy) Knesek of Corpus Christi, Texas. Three grandchildren, Janice, Brenda, and Kris. Two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kiera. One sister, Alma Haugen. Seven nephews and four nieces.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 16, 2000 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
GILL
J. Howard Gill, Jr., 73, passed away on March 12,2000 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Howard was born on May 5, 1926, in Holly Springs, Mississippi to J. Howard Gill, Sr., and Annie Connelly Gill. He graduated from Holly Springs High School, attended Mississippi State College and, after serving in the Navy during W.W. II, graduated from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia.
Howard was a talented musician, playing trumpet in high school, college, and the Navy Officer's Band at Pearl Harbor. In addition to his love of jazz and classical music, he enjoyed nature trips with his family throughout the Western United States. Of late, Howard served as a trustee for the First Presbyterian Church of Corpus Christi, Texas. In earlier years, he was a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher for the Germantown Presbyterian Church in Germantown, Tennessee. Howard retired in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1995 with his wife of 45 years, Sarah Moore Gill. The Gill's were wed in Memphis, Tennessee, where they started their family and later moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where they spent 25 years. Howard was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed dearly by many relatives and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Moore Gill; a daughter, Susan Hawn (Edwin) of Corpus Christi, Texas; a son, Mark Howard Gill (Mary Ellen) of Phoenix, Arizona; and five grandchildren; Eddie, Sally, Lauren and Blake Hawn of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Rachel Gill of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Sarah Gill Maddox (Rev. John R. Maddox) of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Mrs. Ann Harviel of Memphis, Tennessee; one aunt, Mrs. Eva Brown of Holly Springs, Mississippi and many other wonderful relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Corpus Christi, on Thursday, March 16, 2000 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
Interment will take place in Holly Springs, Mississippi at a later date.
FORSHEY
Gloria M. Forshey, Sergeant First Class, (Ret. U.S. Army), passed away due to illness Saturday, March 11, 2000. She was 44 years old.
She was born December 25, 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Frank and Virginia Mendez. She served in the United States Army for 22 years until her retirement in 1997. Gloria was active in her son's Boy Scout activities, where she served as Advancement Chairman for Troop #162.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jose and Prisca Mendez; her maternal grandfather, Pedro Martinez; and her brother, Oscar Francisco Mendez.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Chief Warrant officer (Ret. U.S. Army), M. Ray Forshey; two sons, A. Marcos and A. Miguel; stepson, Ray J. Forshey (Tanya) of Barnesville, Mississippi; stepdaughter, Lori Barnes (Tony) of Rianzie, Mississippi; and five grandchildren. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Maria Martinez; her parents, Frank and Virginia Mendez; three sisters, Esther DeLeon, Amelia M. Arzuaga (Paul) and Maria Luisa Igou (Harland) of San Antonio; two brothers, Frank Mendez, Jr. (Mary Lou) and Robert Mendez (Angie) all of Corpus Christi, Texas; and eleven nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Corpus Christi Funeral Home from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2000 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

GROOM
MATHIS, TEXAS - Marvin C. Groom, 79, of Mathis, Texas, passed away March 12, 2000.
Mr. Groom was born March 29, 1920 in Stanberry, Missouri. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired auto and industrial mechanic. Member of the Mathis VFW Post #3079 and was an avid flyer.
Mr. Groom was preceded in death by his parents, Orin and Ethel Groom.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Melva Groom of Mathis, Texas; two daughters Nita (Wilbert) Buetow of Sandia, Texas and DeLayne (Larry) Young of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sons, Lyndall Groom of Corpus Christi, Texas and Kerwin (Carolyn) Groom of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Margaret Reece of Belton, Missouri; one brother, Dale Groom of Shell Knob, Missouri; 12 grandchildren: Lynley, Megan, Derek and Brent Buetow, Ami Kandyce and Lesli Denae McNeal, Gaynette (Clay) Ward, Trevor, Kevin, Kenny, Kyle, Kelly Groom, and Jessica DeLeon; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2000 at the Dobie Funeral Chapel in Mathis, Texas.
Interment will follow in Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis.

GUERRA
SINTON - Esteban R. Guerra, 71, passed away Monday, March 13, 2000 in a Corpus Christi hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born in La Costa, Texas and had been a resident of Sinton for the past sixty years. He had been employed by Moorhouse Construction for over twenty-three years and then employed by Sinton I.S.D. as a custodian for over twenty-two years.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Guerra of Sinton, one son and daughter-in-law, Esteban and Cynthia Guerra of Sinton two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Esther and Juaquin Carrera of Spring, Texas and Susana Guerra of Sinton, three brothers, Julio Guerra & Anestacio Guerra, both of Poteet and Jose Guerra of Lubbock, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM, Thursday, March 16, 2000 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father David Taurasi as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Eternal Rest Cemetery in Sinton.
MABERLY
James E. Maberly, 81, passed away in his Corpus Christi home Saturday, March 11, 2000 after a prolonged illness.
James was born in Lindenhurst, New York. During high school, he participated on the US Archery team against the Japanese prior to WWII. During WWII, he was a Captain in the Infantry of the US Army. James worked at the University of Corpus Christi for twenty five years as a professor and business manager. After nine years with the H.E.B. Corporate Office in Corpus Christi, he retired. James was an active member of the Nueces County Republican Party as a treasurer and precinct chairman. He was instrumental in bringing the Little and Pony League baseball to Corpus Christi. James was a loving husband and father who will be dearly missed by those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son Edwin (Raylene) Maberly and grandchildren Trisha Maberly and Larq Maberly.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at 3:00 PM at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donations to a charity of one's choice or the Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi.
MOLINA
Maria M. Molina, 81, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2000 at her residence. She was born on August 8, 1918 in Taft, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Molina, Sr. in 1997 and two sons, Guillermo Cortez and Rodolfo Menchaca.
She is survived by six sons: Reymundo (Frances) Menchaca, Juan C. (Janie) Menchaca, Alejandro (Gloria) Menchaca, Orlando Menchaca, Victor (Sylvia) Menchaca and Guadalupe (Mary) Molina, Jr. all of Corpus Christi; three daughters, Elena (Reynaldo) Barron and Rosa Flores both of San Antonio, Texas and Belinda (Armando) Guerra of Corpus Christi; one sister, Luisa Villarreal of Corpus Christi; 34 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Public visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2000 at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2000 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
SLOMA
Ruth Roddy (Mimi) Sloma, age 87, of Austin died Tuesday, March 14, 2000.
Throughout her life, Ruth followed in the footstep of her mother, Blanche Baker Roddy, in the service of God. She, like her mother, taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi. She was also President of both Church Women United and of the Women of First Presbyterian Church. On moving to Austin 13 years ago, she became an active parishioner at her new church, First Presbyterian. Her legacy to many will be her daily walk with Jesus.
For 30 years, Ruth was employed in the Medical Records Department, Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi.
She met the last days of her life on earth with her accustomed grace, wit, and courage. In life, she was loved. She will be long remembered and greatly missed.
Survivors include her sister, Glyn Miller of Corpus Christi; sons, Dean and Steve; daughters, Carolyn and Hallie; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2000 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Weed-Corely-Fish Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the First Presbyterian Church at 8001 Mesa Drive in Austin with Reverend Laura Taylor de Palomino officiating.

Manuel J. Tamez, 82, passed away Monday, March 13, 2000 in a local hospital.

Jose Trevino, 36, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2000 in a local hospital.
