Corpus Christi skates to 5-4 shootout victory

ODESSA - It took little longer than they anticipated, but the Corpus Christi IceRays completed the sweep of Odessa Saturday night at the Ector County Coliseum.
The IceRays overcame a two-goal, third period deficit to beat the Jackalopes, 5-4, in overtime. Corpus Christi went 4-0 against the Jackalopes this season. Each game was decided by a single goal.
Kurt Wickenheiser scored two goals, including the game-winner in the shootout. He has 55 goals and 103 points for the season. IceRays goalie Jason Genik did not allow an Odessa goal in the shootout, improving his record to 13-11-3 and the team's record in shootouts to 8-8.
With the win, Corpus Christi improved to 30-23-8 (68 points). The IceRays play host to Central Texas today in a 3:05 p.m. game at Memorial Coliseum.
Odessa fell to 28-26-8 (64 points).
Wickenheiser's 54th goal gave the IceRays an early 1-0 lead and Tobin Praznik's 39th goal tied the game at 4-4, sending it to overtime.
Odessa scored twice on a five-minute power play to take a 2-1 lead after IceRays forward Dustin McArthur was charged with a major penalty and a game misconduct for cross-checking.
Mike Sanderson scored first for the Jackalopes to tie the game, 1-1, and Savo Mitrovic's 15th goal put Odessa ahead, 2-1, with 8:36 to play in the first period. Andy Ross scored the equalizer for Corpus Christi, his fifth of the seaosn, and the first period ended in a 2-2 tie.
Eric Perricone gave Odessa its second lead, 3-2, 8:34 into the second period. Jackalopes forward Jason Heywood added to the lead at the 15:18 mark of the second period, which ended with Odessa leading, 4-2.
IceRays forward Cory Johnson cut the Jackalopes' lead to one goal, 4-3, with 12:43 gone by in the third period with his second goal since being traded to Corpus Christi from Lubbock on Feb. 21. Praznik then beat Odessa goalie Michael Tornquist (20-15-5) just 1:19 later to tie the game, 4-4.
