Two IceRays reach milestones in defeat

Wickenheiser nets 50th goal, Bumstead scores 100th point in 6-3 loss to Stampede

From staff and correspondent reports

BELTON -Two IceRays reached individual milestones Friday night, but Corpus Christi lost the team game.
The IceRays, aiming to win a franchise-record fifth consecutive game, fell to Central Texas, 6-3, in a Western Professional Hockey League Central Division clash.
Corpus Christi's Kurt Wickenheiser became the 10th player in league history to score 50 goals in a season, and Geoff Bumstead recorded his 100th point of the season, but Central Texas used a Sean Hughes hat trick to snap the IceRays four-game winning streak.
Corpus Christi will try to start a new streak today when it hosts Austin at 7:05 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum.
The IceRays fell to 27-22-8. Their 62 points keep the team in third place in the division. Central Texas, the division leader, improved to 42-14-2 (86 points), beating the IceRays for just the third time in eight meetings.
Corpus Christi goalie Eddy Skazyk got the start. He was 5-0 against the Stampede, but Skazyk (15-12-5) neither won nor finished the game.
Central Texas took a 2-0 lead after goals by Chris Johnson and Sean Hughes before Corpus Christi answered with a power play goal by Darryl Olsen.
The Stampede outshot the IceRays, 12-5, through the first 20 minutes and led on the scoreboard, 2-1.
   Not for long.
Central Texas put two more goals on the board in the first 8:40 of the second period to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Chris Fawcett got to Skazyk at the 7:14 mark and Hughes scored his second goal of the night one minute later.
After Hughes' second goal, IceRays coach Taylor Hall had seen enough of Skazyk. Hall replaced his starting goalie with Jason Genik and Corpus Christi responded quickly.
Before Genik would face his first shot on goal, Wickenheiser made IceRays history with his 50th goal of the season, 16 seconds after the goalie change.
At the time, Corpus Christi trailed by two goals, 4-2.
Hughes answered at the 12:38 mark of the second period with his third goal, a power-play goal, to complete the hat trick.
Bumstead then recorded his 100th point of the season with a power-play goal that cut the Central Texas lead to 5-3.
Former IceRays forward Mike Dick put Central Texas back ahead by three goals, 6-3, 2:35 into the third period. Dick played in Corpus Christi briefly last season.
