IceRays fall to Ice Bats, 3-0
Defeat is team's third straight loss to Austin

AUSTIN - Even when the Corpus Christi IceRays appear to have the upper hand, things end up on the downside.
With a roster of 18 making the road trip to Austin on Tuesday, the IceRays dropped a 3-0 decision at the Travis County Exposition Center against an Ice Bats team that had just a dozen players on the bench.
It was Corpus Christi's third straight loss to Austin this season. The Ice Bats, who lead the season series 5-1, have outscored the IceRays, 30-9.
Three straight losses have prevented Corpus Christi (16-17-2) from gaining ground in the Western Professional Hockey League Eastern Division. Austin and Tupelo are tied for first place in the standings with 44 points each.
The IceRays remain in fifth place in the Eastern Division with 34 points as they prepare for a two-game series against New Mexico Friday and Saturday. The Scorpions are 19-7-2 and tied for second place in the WPHL Western Division.
Earlier this month, New Mexico defeated the IceRays, 3-2, during a visit to Memorial Coliseum in the teams' only previous meeting this season.
Corpus Christi won five of its first six games in December. Since then, the IceRays have lost five of their last six.
The Scorpions have put together an impressive run through December, having won eight of their 11 games this month, including the last five in a row.
After a game Jan. 5 at El Paso, Corpus Christi wraps up its seven-game road trip Jan. 6 at Amarillo. The IceRays next home game is scheduled for Jan. 10 against the Odessa Jackalopes.
