Dallas FBI chief: School district corruption is still running wild
Associated Press
DALLAS - More than three years into an FBI investigation to root out fraud in the Dallas school district, a top agency official said the corruption is continuing.
Danny Defenbaugh, head of the Dallas FBI office, in Sunday editions of The Dallas Morning News is quoted as saying there is enough corruption still around to warrant his increase in the number of FBI agents who are working with the Internal Revenue Service on the investigation.
District officials said they will continue to eliminate wrongdoing, but investigators need to share information and act on tips.
"I don't know what else we can do," school board president Roxan Staff said. "If someone is stealing from under our noses . . . If he (Mr. Defenbaugh) knows that, he needs to come tell this board."
At least 16 DISD employees and one contractor have been convicted of fraud-related crimes since the FBI began its look into district finances.
