BENAVIDES
Alicia S. Benavides, 86, passed away on Monday, September 6, 1999 in a local hospital.
She was born in Hebbronville, Texas on November 15, 1912.
She is survived by, San Juana "Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Olga (Paul) Capetillo of Houston, Texas, Alicia (Mike) Vela of Channelview, Texas, Arturo (Linda) Benavides Jr. of Houston, Texas, Emma (Honore) Rodriguez of Channelview, Texas, Diana (Fred) Franco of Corpus Christi, Texas, Rene Benavides (Yolanda) Sr. of Pearland, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, three great-great-granchildren; and a sister, Amelia Sanez of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 1999 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening at Corpus Christi Funeral Home.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, 1999 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
GARCIA
Pantaleon Garcia, a retired security guard, from Gulf Compress after 35 years, passed away September 6, 1999. He was 92. He was born January 7, 1907 and he was preceded in death by his daughter, Francis (Pancha) Garcia and one brother, Santos Garcia. Survivors include his wife, Hortencia Garcia of Corpus Christi, one son, Santos Garcia of Taft, seven daughters; Ofelia Narvaez, (Amancio) Lupe Guerrero, (Castulo) both of Taft, Maria Elva Cervantes, (Albert Flores), Diana Palmerin (Jose), Alma Trejo (David), Veronica Gonzalez (Rudy) and Sylvia Hernandez, all of Corpus Christi, two sisters, Francisca Trevino of Taft and Maria Pieda Perez of Corpus Christi; twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and sixteen great-great grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited Wednesday September 8, 1999 at 7:30 PM at Colonial Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September, 9, 1999 at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00 AM with Fr. Francisco Lopez officiating Burial will follow at Taft Memorial Park Cemetery.
JONES
Luther E. Jones, Jr., a retired Corpus Christi Attorney, passed away on September 6, 1999 at the age of 85, as a result of injuries sustained in a fall.
Born in Madisonville, Texas, he attended Rice Institute, Georgetown University Law School in Washington, D.C. and the University of Texas Law School, from which he received a law degree in 1937.
Most of his work as a lawyer was in Corpus Christi, where he was a solo practitioner specializing in criminal,oil, and gas law. His early experience included being Secretary to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Piece Butler, attorney in the Lands Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, Executive Assistant to Undersecretary of Interior Alvin Wirtz, attorney in the Judge Advocate General Department, Assistant City Attorney of Corpus Christi, and U.S. Commissioner under Federal District Judge James V. Allred. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1968-1969, he served as the First Assistant District Attorney of Nueces County. He was a member of the Bar Committee for the 1965 revision of the Code of Criminal Procedure. In 1971, he served as District Judge of the 105th District Court. He was also a frequent speaker at legal seminars, contributed to legal periodicals, and wrote numerous articles on criminal law and procedure.
Jones retired early to pursue his interests in travel, literature, and dancing. He was a devoted father, husband, and friend to many. He viewed this as his greatest accomplishment in life. Luther loved his wife and his four children, and prided himself in their accomplishments and successes. He was also a lover of philosophy, and quoted Shakespeare regularly and with great delight. After his retirement from law practice, Luther, his wife, Helen and daughter, Janice, traveled extensively around the United Sates. He loved to dance and took daily walks to the store to get his paper and fresh fruit. He will be fondly remembered by all those people in his life to which he brought joy and happiness on a daily basis.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, his four children, Grant (Susan) of Corpus Christi, Luther of EL Paso, Trent (Olga) of Ojai, California, and Janice Wolf (Richard) of San Antonio and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at the Seaside Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 9, 1999 in the Seaside Chapel. Interment will follow in the Seaside Memorial Park.
KUEHM
Clara Mae Kuehm, life-long resident of Corpus Christi, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 1999 in a local hospital. She was 69.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold C. Kuehm and Anna J. Kuehm; her brother, Richard B. Kuehm; and sister, Marjorie M. Walden.
Clara was a graduate of W.B. Ray High School, an employee of Goodwill Industries, and a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Survivors are brothers, Kenneth A. Kuehm and Wayne J. Kuehm; and her sister, Elaine Dupont (John, Sr.)
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at the Seaside Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 1999 in the Seaside Memorial Park.
Clara was a loving daughter and sister and will be dearly missed.
RAMIREZ
Agustin R. Ramirez, 70, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 1999 in a local Nursing Home. He was born on April 12, 1929 in Oilton, Texas. Mr. Ramirez was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a sergeant from 1949 thru 1953. He retired from the Corpus Christi Naval Base in 1984 after 30 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Agustin and Maria De Jesus Ramirez, two sisters, Elodia Hernandez and Josefa Hernandez.
He is survived by one sister, Hilda R. (Valentine) Flores of Corpus Christi; one brother, Gilberto R (Maria) Ramirez of Yuma, Arizona; his nephews, Herbert Hernandez, Johnny Hernandez, Alfredo Flores, Ernesto Flores, Armando Flores, Jose Luis Hernandez, Angel Hernandez, Julian Hernandez, Eloy Hernandez, Gilberto Ramirez Jr., Edmond Ramirez and Herbert Ramirez; his nieces Evelina Martinez, Andy Mungia, Margarita Devis, Martha Elia Putman, Lucinda Balle, Maria Elodia Torres, Diana Castion, Elsa Chavez and Hilda Soto.
Public visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 1999 at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Active Pallbearers will be Herbert Hernandez of Corpus Christi, Alfredo Flores of Puerto Rico, Jose Luis Hernandez and Eloy Hernandez both of San Antonio, John Flores of Seguin, Texas and Andres Flores of Corpus Christi.
SAMMONS
ROCKPORT, TX - Dorothy W. Sammons, 74 years old, passed away on September 9, 1999. She was born in Old Gulf, Texas on July 4, 1925.
She had been a resident of Rockport-Fulton for the past twenty-nine years and was retired from the Aransas County Appraisal Office. Dorothy was a member of the Texas Association of Assessing Officers.
She is survived by one son; James Bryant Sammons (Regenia) of Rockport, Texas; three daughters; D.D. Haines (Wes) of the Colony, Texas; Pattye Jean Whicker (Chuck) of Papalote, Texas and Kathleen Louise Forrester (Ray) of Colidge, Texas; one sister; MadraJean Penny (Joe) of Canyon Lake, Texas; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She will lie in State at the Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Rockport, Texas on Thursday, September 9, 1999 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the Dorothy Sammons home on Thursday from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Fun ARANSAS PASSeral Services will be held at the Charlie Marshall Funeral Chapel, Rockport, Texas on Friday, September 10, 1999 at 2:00 PM.
Private Burial will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery, Refugio, Texas.
