IceRays Bio No. 1: Jody Praznik

Jody Praznik, defenseman
   6-foot-1, 195 pounds
   11 years pro
   First IceRays signed by franchise
Your key to good night's sleep on the bus?
My key is not to sleep at all. I stay up all night, playing cards and reading. It's tough for me to get to sleep on the bus, and if I sleep for five or 10 minutes, it's worse than not sleeping at all.
How many teeth have you lost in hockey?
None. I've always worn mouth piece, since my first pro game. But because of that, I've broken my nose 6-8 times. I'll take a punch or a stick in the mouth, and it glances off my mouth piece and hits me square in the nose.
   Describe your greatest game.
When I was in Albuquerque (1996-97), we had a game against Amarillo where I got my first pro hat trick. I finished with three goals and three assists. For a defenseman, that kind of night is about as rare as snow in South Texas.
Hockey as a sport has been banned. Your next job would be ...
I would take up golf seriously. I would want to become a golf pro or an assistant golf pro at a country club.
You win all-expenses-paid trip to see three musical bands of your choice. Who would they be?
KISS, AC/DC, Metallica - I've seen all of them before, and they're all awesome.
What has life in minor league hockey taught you?
There is no security. It's a good life, though. I'd rather do this than work a 9-5 job, but you have to come and work your tail off every day.
