CCISD volleyball teams continue to struggle in postseason action
Trend rolls on after Miller's loss to SA Holmes, 15-2, 15-6
From staff and correspondent reports
THREE RIVERS - The winless trend in the postseason continued for Corpus Christi Independent School District volleyball teams with Miller's bi-district loss on Friday to San Antonio Holmes.
Holmes (27-9) beat the Lady Buccaneers, 15-2, 15-6, advancing to face San Antonio Clark (23-9) in the area round.
In two years of play, CCISD teams have failed to record a playoff victory.
"I think our teams here in Corpus can compete," said Miller coach Joni Luna, whose team claimed its first District 28-5A championship. "But when they hear the word San Antonio, they automatically forget how to play volleyball. It's just a mental block getting our kids out there."
Celina Gutierrez had six kills for the Huskies and Margie Goble served six aces.
Noemi DeAlejandro had three aces and Clatisha Clay had two kills for the Lady Bucs (16-7).
