BELTON - Central Texas' four-game win streak came to a screeching halt Saturday as Corpus Christi defeated the Stampede, 4-2, in a Western Professional Hockey League game.
The IceRays remain in first place of the WPHL Central Division with the victory, the team's second against Central Texas this year. Corpus Christi improved to 8-3-1 and plays today at Abilene in an effort to remain unblemished on the road. The IceRays are 2-0 away from Memorial Coliseum.

The lead held up through the remainder of the first period but Stampede defenseman John Murphy punched in a rebound 33 seconds into the second period to tie the game, 1-1.
Less than three minutes later the IceRays jumped ahead for good, 2-1, when Wickenheiser re-directed a McArthur blast from the point to beat Stampede goalie Jason Carey 3:29 into the second period. McArthur set up Wickenheiser a second time on a goal that increased the IceRays' lead to 3-1 with 11:35 to play before the second intermission.
Skazyk stood tall in the second period, turning away 27 of 28 Central Texas shots. Skazyk had 40 saves after 40 minutes, tying an IceRays record for saves in a game that he set against the Stampede in the first meeting. Skazyk broke the record early in the third period.
Bumstead's seventh goal of the year gave the IceRays a 4-1 lead with 12:18 to play. Tomlinson and Praznik assisted on Bumstead's goal.
