CBS producer ordered to be in Jasper County court today
Associated Press
BEAUMONT - A fight between Jasper County prosecutors and CBS News over the outtakes of an interview with dragging death defendant Shawn Allen Berry continued Monday, as an appeals court allowed a hearing on the matter to go forward in a lower court.
The 9th Court of Appeals in Beaumont rejected another temporary stay for Dallas-based CBS producer Mary Mapes, whose attorneys tried Monday to forestall another hearing about the disputed interview outtakes in state District Judge Joe Bob Golden's court.
That means Mapes must appear this morning in Jasper, where Golden will decide whether the producer should hand over videotapes of the complete interview with Berry.
Prosecutors seek the outtakes of an interview between Berry, 24, and CBS anchor Dan Rather, which aired Sept. 28 on "60 Minutes II."
They want to compare Berry's statements to Rather with others he gave during the investigation into the death of James Byrd Jr.
