Last Houston octuplet home from hospital
Associated Press
HOUSTON - All the surviving Texas octuplets are now home from a hospital here.
The last of the octuplets to leave Texas Children's Hospital was Ikem, the firstborn of two boys to Nkem Chukwu and her husband, Ikye Louis Udobi.
Ikem was the oldest boy of the octuplets. He had been in intensive care since being born in December of 1998.
He had abdominal surgery in March, but has been breathing on his own for the past three months.
Gorom Louis, the eighth-born baby to Nkem Chukwu last December, was released from Texas Children's in April.
The weakest of the octuplets was Odera, born at 10.3 ounces, who died a week after birth. Gorom and Ikem have been the sickliest of the survivors, each needing surgery and other specialized care.
Sisters Chidi and Chima were released April 8. They followed girls Ebuka and Echerem and the other boy, Jioke, who were discharged March 3.
