Md. prosecutors to get Tripp tapes

Associated Press

BALTIMORE - A federal judge has ruled that Linda Tripp's recordings of conversations with Monica Lewinsky must be turned over to Maryland prosecutors, clearing a potential roadblock to trying Tripp for breaking state wiretap laws.
The judge's order that independent counsel Kenneth Starr must turn over the recordings followed a request for the tapes by State Prosecutor Stephen Montanarelli, The (Baltimore) Sun reported Saturday.
Tripp's attorney, Joe Murtha, said he will challenge any indictment brought against his client on the grounds that she is protected by federal immunity given to her in exchange for the tapes.
Starr granted Tripp federal immunity in the investigation of the president, but the protection doesn't spare her from state prosecution.
