BERNAL

Manuel Bernal, Sr., 89, passed away Saturday, July 10, 1999 with his family at his side. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Flora B. Bernal of Corpus Christi; his sons, Jose F. (Olga) Bernal of Corpus Christi, Juan B. (Amelia) Bernal of Corpus Christi; Genero (Mary) Bernal of Grand Prairie, Texas, Manuel (Janie) Bernal, Jr. of Houston, Texas; his daughters, Petra "Pat" Moreno, Fela Villanueva, and Alejandra "Alex" Herrera all of Corpus Christi. His survivors include 27 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled at 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., Monday, July 12, 1999 at Angelus Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. that same evening.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church with interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

BYERS

BATESVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - Charles Grady Byers, Jr., 80, passed away Saturday, July 10, 1999 at his daughter's home in Water Valley, Mississippi, due to a cancer illness.
Mr. Byers was born on June 4, 1919 in Panola County, Mississippi to Charles Grady and Judy Irene Horton Byers. He was a retired Postal Carrier and Farmer and was a U.S. Army Veteran of W.W.II. Mr. Byers was a member of the Sandsprings Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his spouse, Martha Womack Byers of Batesville, Mississippi; three daughters, Sarah Byers McCullar of Corpus Christi, Texas, Fran Byers of Water Valley, Mississippi, and Robbie Byers of Tupelo, Mississippi; a sister, Norma Byers McKee of Batesville, Mississippi; two grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, July 11, 1999 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
Graveside Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 12, 1999, at Forrest Memorial Park, Batesville, Mississippi.
Wells Funeral Home of Batesville, Mississippi in charge of arrangements.

DYER

O. Vivian Dyer, born April 23, 1918, passed away Sunday, July 11, 1999 at the age of 81.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Merle Dyer; daughter, Leslie (Reggie) Jackson; son, Michael K. Dyer, all of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister, Frances Farris of Wichita, Kansas; grandsons Clay, Jeremy and Steven Jackson; granddaughter Jessica Dyer; and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 in the Seaside Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Arnett Ward officiating.

GANEM

Josephine Ganem, 87, passed away in a local hospital, Saturday, July 10, 1999. Josephine was a member of South Texas Pioneer family. After the death of her father she moved her mother and family to Corpus Christi. She devoted her life to her family. Her father and mother, Joseph and Sadie Ganem, brothers, Joe, Bill, Louis, and Buddy Ganem and a sister, Julia Sahadi preceded her in death.
Her sister, Virginia Sahadi of Corpus Christi, Texas survives her. She was a like a mother to Dr. Jack Sahadi, Sally Jo Kaminski and Sandra Vineyard and their children. Numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews also survive her.
Visitation will begin Monday, July 12, 1999 at 2:00 P.M. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., Monday, July 12, 1999 at the Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Chapel.
A Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the Gonzales City Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas, at 3:00 P.M.
Pallbearers will be Larry Genem, Damon Sahadi, Regan Sahadi, Neil Sahadi, Kevin Sahadi, and Clarence Floyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be all her nephews.

GARCIA

Felix L. Garcia, 84, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 1999. He was born on April 17, 1915 in Brownsville, Texas. Mr. Garcia was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II serving as a Gunner's Mate. On July 5, 1943 he was on board the USS Helena that sank at the battle of Kula Gulf. He also served on the USS Missouri "Mighty Mo" near the end of the war and was on board the ship when the Peace Treaty with Japan was signed on September 2, 1945. He was awarded several distinguished awards and medals which include, The Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon Bar.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Olivia Garcia; his brother, Crispin Garcia; and a sister, Maria G. Rosales.
He is survived by three daughters, Maria G. (Michael) Hill of Portland, Texas, Sylvia (Marty) Romero and Patsy (Richard) Ramirez both of Corpus Christi; one sister, Helen Sauceda of Corpus Christi; five grandchildren: Felicia (Felix) Trevino, Joel Ramirez, Felix Ramirez, Jennifer Ramirez and Christina Ramirez; one great-grandson; two step-grandsons, Patrick Hill and Zachary Hill; one step-granddaughter, Gabriella Trevino.
Public visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 1999 at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park with full military honors provided by Patriots Honor Guard.

HOMINICK

Sam Simon Hominick, Sr., age 79, went to be with our Heavenly Father after a long illness.
Mr. Hominick maintained a residence in Annaville, Texas, but he and his wife Charline have been in San Antonio with his daughter for the past nine months. For 19 years he also lived in Ft. Worth and Burleson, Texas.
He was born June 30, 1920 on the Pearce Ranch in El Campo. He later moved to Corpus Christi for his schooling. He joined the Coast Guard in July, 1941 and was later transferred into the Navy where he served on numerous ships as Chief Petty Officer until October, 1945. He retired from Montgomery Wards after 34 wonderful years of employment. Early in his career he was promoted to District Merchandise Manager over Appliances and traveled for 28 years out of the Ft. Worth, Texas District Offices.
He was a member of American Legion Post #426 of Alvarado, Texas. He had been in this Post for 17 years and held the office of Treasurer for several years. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #3837 in Annaville, Texas for four years. Mr. Hominick was an active member of his church, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Corpus Christi before his illness. He held at 1st Degree in the Knights of Columbus Council #9318. He has touched so many lives and left so many people with warm wonderful memories. Sam Hominick, Sr. never met a stranger. He was truly the most caring and generous person you could ever meet and we shall miss him more than words could ever express. We love and miss our Husband, Dad, GrandPa and Brother.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Hominick Sr.; his mother, Mary E. Birmingham; former wife, Doris; a brother, Willie Hominick, Jr.; and a son, Sam Hominick, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Charline Johnson Hominick of Corpus Christi; one son, Jerry (Dorothy Ann) Hominick; and one daughter, Kathleen (Charles B.) Barrett, all of San Antonio; a step-son, Walt (Siggi) Wood of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a step-daughter, Sharon K. Bean of Ft. Worth, Texas; 12 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Audrey) Hominick, Sr. and Pete (Ruby) Hominick, Sr., all of Corpus Christi, Joseph (Kay) Hominick of Orange Grove; two sisters, Rosie (Joe) Mosely and Marie (Bobby) Suggs, all of Corpus Christi; two God children, Diane (Tim) Brown and Mary Lou (Tom) Gaston and also by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 13, 1999 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 14, 1999, in St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church on Violet Road.
Graveside services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M., Wednesday in Garden of Memories Cemetery in El Campo, Texas with full military honors where he will be laid to rest next to his father and mother.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Barrett, Aaron Hominick, Joey Hominick, John Hominick, Jr., Joe Mosely, Jr., and Robert Suggs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Hominick, Jr., Sammy Hominick, III, and Richard Hominick.

MADRID

Eric Celeri Madrid, 26, of Corpus Christi, passed away July 9, 1999.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Alma Madrid (Moses Torres); father, Celerino V. Madrid; paternal grandparents, Bernandino (Dolores) Madrid; maternal grandmother, Juanita Guzman, all of Corpus Christi; one sister, Debra Ann Garcia (Joseph) of San Antonio; four brothers, Michael Anthony Madrid of Houston, Cid, Matthew Sean and Ivan Eli Madrid of Corpus Christi; four aunts, Virginia Cavazos of Bakersfield, California, Juanita Pena (Lorenzo) of Beasley, Texas, Elena Lopez and Rosaura Perez (Juan) of Corpus Christi; one niece; two nephews and twenty cousins; also girlfriend, Maggie Guajardo of Corpus Christi.
The family will be receiving friends Tuesday, July 13, 1999 from 12:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. at Trevino Funeral Home, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 P.M.
A Funeral Procession will depart on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 from Trevino Funeral Home at 12:00 P.M. for a 12:30 P.M. Funeral Mass to be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entombment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Services under the direction of Bobby Trevino.

MARSHALL

H.B. Marshall, 73, of Robstown, passed away Saturday, July 10, 1999. He was born August 24, 1925, in Bremont, Texas to John Joe and Josephine Marshall. He was a U.S. Army veteran WWII. Mr. Marshall owned Bargain Corner Used Cars in Robstown for over 30 years and was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 364 and Czech Heritage Society. He loved to dance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian Vana Marshall; one brother, Daniel Marshall and one sister, Pauline Kwaznica.
He is survived by three sons, Terry Marshall of Robstown, George Marshall and Herman Marshall, Jr. both of Corpus Christi; one brother Marion Marshall of Houston; four sisters: Evelyn Cichershi, Willie Mae Kubiak, Dorothy Sorsby and Christine Swiech all of Houston; two grandchildren, Chad and Garrett Marshall and a special friend, Ethyl Mae Krejci of Corpus Christi.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 1999, in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Robstown.
Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Michael Rektorik, Ronald Nemec, James Nemec, Archie Rektorik, David Vana and Ronnie Klostermann.
Those who wish may make contributions to St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Robstown.

SMITH

Irma Loewen Smith, a longtime resident of Corpus Christi, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 1999. Irma was born October 28, 1906 in Oklahoma, the granddaughter of homesteaders of Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, Vincel O. Smith.
She is survived by a son, Rodger V. Smith and his wife Patricia of Red Rock, Texas; a daughter, Carolyn Weda and her husband Kenneth of West Palm Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Arthur Loewen of Norman, Oklahoma and two sisters, Orpha Powell of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Dortha Bell Dory of Moses Lake, Washington.
She was a graduate of the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma and taught in public schools for seventeen years. She later taught music in the neighborhood centers for eleven years after her retirement.
She was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association, Oso Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Iota Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, Sigma Alpha Iota, the Thursday Music Club and of Parkway Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 12, 1999 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Everhart Chapel.
A Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., July 13, 1999 at Parkway Presbyterian Church.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Alberto "40" Villarreal, 41, of Corpus Christi, passed away Friday, July 9, 1999.
Rites of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday July 12, 1999 at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church.
