11-year-old helps deliver baby sister
Associated Press
BELDING, Mich. - Nick Nordberg's new T-shirt features a picture of his baby sister and the words "I delivered Hannah."
The 11-year-old earned it.
His mother started feeling cramps four days before she was due to deliver. But Karrie Kulhawick wasn't sure if she was in labor.
"I knew the baby was coming and there was no way of stopping her," Kulhawick said. "I called Nick into the bathroom. I was terrified."
Nick called 911. From his description of his mother's condition, dispatcher Tracy Larson knew she'd have to help the boy deliver his sister.
"I was getting two sets of directions, one from mom, the other from 911," Nick said. "I really didn't want to be there, but I had to do it."
Within 20 minutes after Nick called 911, sister Hannah was born.
