Bonds lauded by national publication
From staff and correspondent reports
Calallen High School senior volleyball player Ashlea Bonds has been named to the 1999 inaugural edition of Blocks-N-Kills high school volleyball yearbook's South Region Team Elite. Blocks-N-Kills is a 170-page publication featuring the top prep volleyball players, coaches and teams in the country.
An outside hitter, Bonds led the Lady Wildcats to back-to-back District 31-4A titles and their second consecutive regional semifinal appearance last season. She was named the 1999 Caller-Times All-South Texas and All-Metro Most Valuable Player, and also was the 31-4A's MVP.
The 5-foot-9 Bonds, who is expected to sign a volleyball scholarship with either the University of Tampa or the University of New Haven in February, had 206 kills, 102 digs, 71 blocks and 33 aces last season.
