'Rays fall to Arkansas in shootout

Corpus Christi collects single point in 5-4 defeat

From staff reports

LITTLE ROCK - Corpus Christi started strong, but Arkansas finished fast.
Despite recording the first three goals of the game, two of which came in the first four minutes of the game, the Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the Arkansas GlacierCats in a shootout, 5-4.
Dustin McArthur scored twice for the IceRays in the loss, while Tobin Praznik and Kurt Wickenheiser also added goals for Corpus Christi, which fell to 12-10-5. The IceRays remain in last place in the new-look Central Division with 29 points.
For the IceRays, Alain Savage recorded the only goal in the extra session, while shooters Geoff Bumstead, Ryan Esselmont, Bob Quinell and Wickenheiser were each denied by winning netminder Christian Soucy.
Arkansas' Tim Findlay and Brian Secord each found the net for the second time in the game during the shootout, hanging the loss on Corpus Christi netminder Eddy Skazyk.
The GlacierCats found their offensive rhythm during a second period in which they scored three goals. Tim Findlay's goal 9:29 into the frame was Arkansas' first of the game and cut into a 3-0 deficit. By the end of the period, goals from Secord and Ben Maidment had brought the 'Cats to within 4-3.
Arkansas stifled the 'Rays throughout the third period, blanking the visitors while adding the equalizer when Brian Stacey found the net early in the frame on the power play. Corpus Christi was held scoreless throughout the final 23:22 of the game and scored just once in the final 36 minutes.
The 'Rays return to the ice tonight, when they challenge the Eastern Division's last place team, the Tupelo T-Rex.
