Lady Texans fall to Lady Wildcats, 15-3, 15-8

The Calallen varsity volleyball players didn't seem to feel any lagging effects from Hurricane Bret, as the Lady Wildcats blew past Ray, 15-3, 15-8, at Ray High School Tuesday evening.
   Kendra Felder (nine kills) and Ashlea Bonds (six) combined for 15 kills to power the Lady Wildcats to the non-district victory and boost their overall record to 7-1. Jacey Miersma added 22 assists and Elizabeth Raef lofted three aces and three digs to lead Calallen in their respective categories.
   Krista Vead chipped in 10 assists and Anne Kucera and Jamie Davis combined for seven kills to lead the Lady Texans (3-3). Kelly Buckley and Cathryn Castor also tallied four and three digs respectively for Ray.
   Flour Bluff def. Moody 15-4, 15-7:
   Shelby Maier and Tonille Todd combined for eight kills and setter Leslie Schwierzke totaled 13 assists for the Hornets during their non-district home victory against the Trojans.
   Flour Bluff's Star Loucks added seven digs and Adrianne Greene two blocks to help the Hornets improve to 4-1 on the year.
   Selena Lopez had six digs, Martysha Mosley threw down three kills and Michelle O'Donnell contributed two blocks to pave the way for Moody. The Trojans fell to 1-3 on the year.
   Odem def. Mathis 15-4, 16-14:
   The Owls cruised in game one before outlasting the Pirates in game two en route to a non-district varsity volleyball victory.
   Mathis' Kelly Brown served up three aces, pounded four kills and added six digs in the loss. Elma Lopez led the Pirates with four aces, while her teammate Alex Santos contributed a team-best four assists.
   George West def. Sinton, 15-10, 15-6:
   The Longhorns nipped the Pirates in the first game before taking control of the match with a convincing effort in game two. Amy Lazo (7 digs), Carey Stanton (13 assists), Crystal Dupnik (5 kills), and Sandra Hatfield (5 kills) led the way for the Longhorns. Nicole Gibson had a game-high five blocks for Sinton.
   With the non-district victory, George West improved to 4-5, while the Pirates slipped to 3-5 on the season.
