NCAA investigator to visit Javelinas
From staff reports
Texas A&M University-Kingsville officials received notice late Thursday that an enforcement representative from the NCAA will be on campus August 23-26 for an information gathering visit in response to allegations made by former compliance officer Ron Deschamps.
Prior to the visit, the NCAA will notify the university in writing about specific areas of interest. The NCAA determined an investigation was necessary after receiving more than a dozen topics of concern from Deschamps. Earlier in the week, NCAA enforcement representative Rich Johanningmeier interviewed Deschamps for more than four hours.
The university conducted an internal investigation following the reception of Deschamps' allegations. Results of the internal investigation were self-reported to the NCAA.
"I view this as an opportunity to set the record straight and clear up any speculation about the integrity of our athletic program, our faculty and our students," university president Marc Cisneros said in a prepared statement released Friday.
