Former area tennis, golf champ Whitehurst dies at 87
Anna Mae Reichert Whitehurst, a former Corpus Christi resident, charter member of the Corpus Christi Country Club and winner of numerous tennis and golf championships, died Aug. 1, 1999. She was 87.
Whitehurst won the Women's State Tennis Championship a total of eight times in the late 1920s and the early 1930s. She was also the Tri-State Champion and continued to be a strong supporter of the sport until her death.
Whitehurst is survived by her sons, Frank Whitehurst of Houston, John Whitehurst of San Antonio and K. Robert and Thomas Whitehurst, both of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Julia Hausafus and Teresa Reichert, both of San Antonio; a brother, John Reichert of Corpus Christi; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Incarnate Word Motherhouse Chapel, 4707 Broadway, San Antonio.
